YOUTH MEMBERSHIP

If you’re aged 12, 13, 14 or 15, you can join SCC and ride on club rides, but you must have your parent or carer’s consent. You must also be accompanied by a nominated adult club member, arranged by your parent or carer, to be responsible for you for the duration of the ride (not required for Youth training sessions).

If you are aged 16 or 17 you can join club rides unaccompanied with your parent or carer’s consent. You must carry a mobile phone and your parent or carer must be contactable at all times during the ride.

Once you are aged 18 you are an adult club member.

To ensure all sessions are fun and safe, please read our Youth Code of Conduct before joining any activities.

IMPORTANT:Your parent or carer must read our Parent & Carer Code of Conduct and complete a Youth Membership Form. You need your parent or carer’s consent for any club activity including coaching, training sessions, group rides and competitive events.

To join club rides you must:

  • Ride a bike in a safe, roadworthy condition
  • Be a proficient cyclists (e.g. achieved Bikeability L2)
  • Be fit enough for the ride (length and duration)
  • Wear a CE approved helmet
  • Carry essential items (tyre levers, inner tube and pump)
  • Carry food and drink and money for a café stop
  • Follow the instructions of the ride leader
  • Observe the Highway Code

SCC pays close attention to its responsibilities for the safety and welfare of young people and has adopted British Cycling’s guidance and criteria to ensure best practice at all times.

SCC is committed to ensuring that all officials, coaches and welfare officer(s) have undergone relevant training and hold appropriate qualifications. This includes up to date checks through the Disclosure and Barring Service to establish individual suitability to work with children and young people. Coaches also hold valid First Aid Certificates. Parents will be asked to signify that they both agree with and will abide by this Policy.
